HCMC – Vietnamese carriers are operating a total of 195 aircraft with air operator certification (AOC) as of July, which is 36 fewer than in the same period last year, showed data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
Of these, the number of commercial aircraft utilized by the airlines was 167, a drop of 51 aircraft compared to the year-ago period.
Last year, Vietnamese carriers operated 94.4% of their aircraft with AOCs. Due to the recall of aircraft engines by the manufacturer, this rate has fallen to 85.6% in 2024.
As of July, Vietnam Airlines had 96 aircraft, a drop of six compared to last year’s corresponding period. Of those, the carrier is utilizing 82. In June and July, the national flag carrier operated 401 and 433 flights a day on average, a year-on-year increase of 19-21 flights, respectively.
Vietjet Air is currently operating 73 out of its 85 aircraft. The total number of flights operated in June and July reaches about 416 flights per day, equal to the same period last year.
For Bamboo Airways, the number of flights has sharply decreased compared to the same period in 2023 due to the restructuring of its fleet. As of July 2023, Bamboo Airways has operated eight out of nine aircraft, achieving a utilization rate of 87.5%.
