HCMC – Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is advancing a 500kV power transmission line project connecting Lao Cai and Vinh Phuc provinces, with an investment exceeding VND7 trillion.

The Lao Cai-Vinh Yen power line project spans 229 kilometers and will traverse four northern provinces—Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc. It includes the construction of a dual-circuit power line and expansions at 500kV substations in Vinh Yen and Lao Cai.

The line is designed to transport electricity from hydropower plants in the northwest region to the national grid, minimize transmission losses, and facilitate potential power imports from China.

In Lao Cai, a 49.5-kilometer section will require permanent land acquisition for 101 foundation sites, affecting 50 households in Bao Thang and Bao Yen districts.

Local authorities have committed to expediting land clearance and resettlement, with the People’s Committee of Lao Cai setting a December 15 deadline for preliminary land handover and prioritizing on-site resettlement.

EVN has requested provincial assistance with feasibility studies, technical designs, and compensation processes. Lao Cai authorities have confirmed that interagency task forces will oversee the project to ensure it adheres to the government’s timeline.
