HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse left Hanoi today, September 21, for New York in the U.S. to attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). They will then travel to Cuba for a state visit.
The working visit to the UN underscores Vietnam’s ongoing contributions to the world’s largest multilateral organization and highlights its active role in addressing regional and global challenges, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
In New York, the Vietnamese top leader is expected to deliver a keynote address at the UNGA and participate in a series of bilateral meetings, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on September 19.
During his stay in the U.S., To Lam will meet with U.S. officials and business leaders. The visit comes ahead of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025.
The state visit to Cuba will underscore the long-standing friendship between the two countries. To Lam will meet with First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez, National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez, and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.
This will be To Lam’s visit first state visit to Cuba in his capacity as Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam. The trip aims to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.
