HCMC — Vietnam celebrated the 80th anniversaries of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2 with a grand ceremony at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi City, where Party General Secretary To Lam called for unity and collective effort to achieve the nation’s aspirations.
In his address, Lam recalled the historic day in 1945 when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He said that moment ushered in a new era of independence and freedom, laying the foundation for building a people’s administration and defending the Fatherland.
The Party leader paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, revolutionary predecessors, and millions of compatriots and soldiers who sacrificed for independence, freedom, reunification, and the people’s happiness. He also acknowledged the contributions of war veterans, wounded and sick soldiers, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, workers, farmers, intellectuals, youth, and overseas Vietnamese, as well as international friends who supported Vietnam over the past eight decades.
Lam stressed that the strength of national unity has been the driving force behind Vietnam’s victories, from the August Revolution and resistance wars to the ongoing process of renewal, integration, and development. He said the Party, guided by Marxism-Leninism and the thought, moral example and style of President Ho Chi Minh, has placed the interests of the nation and people above all, enabling the country to overcome challenges and strengthen its international standing.
Looking ahead, he reaffirmed the goal for Vietnam to become a prosperous and developed nation by 2045, the centenary of its founding. He called on the Party, people, and army, including overseas Vietnamese, to take practical actions, enhance creativity, and demonstrate determination to achieve the targets set by the Party and State.
To Lam also emphasized Vietnam’s consistent stance of safeguarding independence, freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while promoting peace and cooperation. He said the country seeks to be a reliable partner of all nations, respects international law, and resolves disputes peacefully, but will firmly protect its national interests.
