HCMC – Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has written a letter extending his heartfelt sympathies to those affected by typhoon Yagi, in light of the massive destruction and impact it has left in northern Vietnam.

Typhoon Yagi has wreaked havoc on the northern provinces of Vietnam though the Party, the State, local authorities, and agencies at all levels had decisively instructed relevant agencies and the armed forces, together with the people, to closely monitor the situation, make thorough preparations and proactively take preventive measures, said the letter.

“On behalf of the Party and the State, I extend my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the families of the victims, especially to those who have lost their loved ones in the flooding,” he wrote.

The top Vietnamese leader praised the efforts and dedication of local authorities, the armed forces, and people nationwide, highlighting how these contributions have helped overcome difficulties and challenges.

“I urge local authorities and government agencies to focus intensively on implementing the plans and measures to address the aftermath of typhoon Yagi, following the five objectives outlined by the Prime Minister,” he said in the letter.

Immediate priorities include rescuing people, ensuring that no one is left hungry, lacking clothing, or without shelter; reaching isolated areas; relocating people from dangerous areas; providing medication and treatment for the sick and ensuring that children return to school as soon as possible.

The Party chief also called on businesses, philanthropists and compatriots to continue to demonstrate strong national solidarity and brotherhood by providing the highest, fastest, and timely support to the families affected by the disaster.

He expressed hope and belief that the entire nation will soon recover from the aftermath of the typhoon, asking local authorities and government agencies to promptly review and propose solutions to minimize damage from future natural disasters.
