HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse will pay a state visit to China from April 14 to 17, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
The visit is made at the invitation of China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, and his spouse.
The visit comes after To Lam was elected State President by the National Assembly. On April 7, Vietnam’s foreign ministry said China’s Party chief and President Xi Jinping had sent congratulations to To Lam.
Vietnam-China relations have maintained positive momentum and achieved significant progress in recent years.
In 2025, China was Vietnam’s largest trading partner, while Vietnam was China’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and its fourth largest globally on a country basis.
Two-way trade reached US$256.4 billion last year. In the first two months of this year, China remained Vietnam’s largest trading partner, with total trade of US$66.7 billion.
As for investment activity, China ranked second in 2025 with total registered capital of US$5.96 billion. In the tourism sector, Vietnam attracted 5.28 million Chinese visitors last year, accounting for 25% of total international arrivals in the nation.
