HCMC – Halong Bay authorities will require visitors to provide more personal information from December 10 as part of a plan to strengthen tourism management and accelerate digital transformation, according to the Halong Bay – Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board.

Under the new rules, domestic tourists must submit their ID number or personal identification code for those not yet eligible for an ID card.

Foreign visitors will need to provide passport details and nationality. Children or individuals without identification documents must register information about their guardian, including name, ID or passport number, and phone number.

The information will be collected by ticketing and inspection staff at Halong International Cruise Port and Tuan Chau International Port. The data will be used solely for tourism administration and handled in compliance with data safety and privacy requirements.

Currently, tourists only provide their name, age, gender, and nationality when purchasing entry tickets.

A representative of the management board said the change aims to improve state oversight of sightseeing activities and gradually build a unified database to support digital transformation.

The board aims to complete data collection and fully integrate information technology into ticketing operations by January 1, 2026.
