HCMC – Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has ordered the provincial government of Binh Thuan to review the developer’s capability to launch the Phan Thiet Airport project in 2023.

The Government Office on September 24 announced Notice 298/TV-VPCP on the conclusion of the deputy prime minister about the meeting on planning and funding some airports and airfields.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport and relevant authorities were ordered to study the investment possibility under the public-private partnership model and report the result to the prime minister this month.

They were also tasked with evaluating the possibility of civil and military uses of airports such as Thanh Son in Ninh Thuan Province, Bien Hoa in Dong Nai Province and Gia Lam in Hanoi City.

The result will be reviewed by the Appraisal Council and then submitted to the prime minister in October 2022.

According to the Binh Thuan Portal, the Phan Thiet Airport is an airdrome with reference code 4E used for military and civil purposes. It receives international flights and has a design capacity of 2 million passengers per year.

As of August 30, the provincial government compensated and cleared the site for the project, ensuring suitable conditions for construction.

The deputy prime minister also urged airports approved by the prime minister, such as Sapa Airport and Quang Tri Airport, to be kicked off in late 2022 or early 2023.

The Phan Thiet Airport is located in Binh Thuan Province on the southeast coast of Vietnam.

Vietnam will have 28 airports by 2030 and 31 by 2050, comprising 14 international and 17 domestic ones, according to the Transport Ministry’s airport development plan.
