Once a humble street food staple, pho (Vietnamese beef or chicken noodle soup) is now being reimagined as a cultural symbol within a modern exhibition space.

The official opening of the Pho Museum in downtown HCMC offers a new cultural landmark where visitors can explore pho as a “living heritage” through a journey that combines historical archives, digital technology, and culinary artistry.

Nestled on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street in the city’s former District 1, as a private culinary museum, the space aims to preserve and promote the essence of Vietnamese gastronomy to both domestic and international audiences.

“Every Vietnamese person carries a private pho museum within their heart,” said Nguyen Que Anh, the museum’s co-founder. “It could be a vivid memory of a childhood morning following their mother to the local street stall, the familiar aroma of broth that defines their youth, or a comforting bowl in a faraway land that whispers of home. Yet, to truly connect and amplify these personal memories, we need a common sanctuary for pho – a dedicated space to preserve, honor, and engage in meaningful dialogue with the world.
