HCMC – Phu Quoc Island has begun construction of two large-scale projects that will add around 12,000 hotel rooms and serviced apartments to serve delegates and guests during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in 2027 (APEC 2027).
On January 28, Phu Quoc Special Zone off the Mekong Delta province of An Giang and Sun Group broke ground on the Bai Dat Do mixed-use urban area and the Nui Ong Quan eco-tourism urban complex. The two projects are part of 21 projects planned for serving the meetings of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economic leaders in 2027.
The two developments are expected to expand accommodation capacity while providing commercial and service facilities for high-level diplomatic events. They are also intended to create new urban and tourism spaces on Phu Quoc Island.

The Bai Dat Do project covers more than 88 hectares with total investment of about VND64 trillion. It is planned along the APEC Boulevard and will include high-rise hotels, shopping centers, coastal plazas and public spaces. The project is expected to supply nearly 6,500 rooms and is located next to the APEC Convention and Exhibition Center.
According to the developer, several international hotel brands are expected to operate the facilities, targeting conference delegates, high-end tourists and official delegations.
The Nui Ong Quan eco-tourism urban area spans more than 21 hectares with total capital of around VND5.55 trillion. Designed as an eco-urban development, it will integrate accommodation, commercial and service functions, providing about 5,200 serviced apartments.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh described APEC 2027 as a major diplomatic event, stressing that infrastructure development is critical to its success. He said Phu Quoc is currently implementing 21 projects for APEC 2027 with participation from central agencies, local authorities and businesses.
The prime minister called for strict adherence to project timelines, construction quality, workplace safety and environmental protection, while promoting green development, digital transformation and smart management.
According to the An Giang provincial government, the 21 APEC-related projects include 10 public investment projects and 11 public-private partnership and commercial investment projects. All projects have completed investor selection.
APEC 2027 will provide an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen its regional role and position Phu Quoc as a hub for economic cooperation and international exchange.
