HCMC – Phu Quoc Island off the coast of Kien Giang Province is planning the relocation of submerged cages used for fish farming and boats to clear the path for the inauguration of the international passenger port later this month.

According to Phu Quoc authorities, the relocation process, scheduled until March 20, will facilitate the final construction stages of the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port, which will be launched on March 25.

This port, heralded as Vietnam’s first multi-functioned international passenger port meeting international standards, marks a significant milestone for the region, said authorities.

Construction efforts are currently focused on expediting the completion of the access road leading to the port gate. Additionally, the clearing of obstacles along the roadsides and the beautification of adjacent roads are in their final stages, said local news reports.

Situated in Dong Duong Town, the Phu Quoc International Passenger Port covers 179.3 hectares and requires a total investment of VND1,600 billion.

It is designed to accommodate cruise vessels that can carry up to 6,000 passengers.
