HCMC – The prime minister has given his nod for an additional investment of US$2 billion in the Mekong Delta to develop the region in the coming periods, revealed Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung.
At a question-and-answer session on November 9, as part of the ongoing 10th sitting of the National Assembly, Minister Dung said the investment would be a resource for the Ministry of Transport to complete national highways and expressways connecting Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Can Tho by 2025, the Government news website reported.
Besides, the capital allocated by the State to localities and their own budgets will be sourced, while private firms will also be called on to make contributions.
In the 2021-2025 period, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will develop a project to seek US$1.05 billion from sponsors to support localities in the Mekong Delta to develop coastal roads and other important traffic projects.
Moreover, the Government will support projects featuring regional connectivity. The Ministry of Planning and Investment and localities have agreed that these projects must be approved by the Mekong Delta’s provincial people’s councils before being submitted to the Government for consideration and approval.
The Government will support each locality with their most important projects, Dung added.
