HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the opening of the HCMC Economic Forum (HEF) this morning, September 25, with participants discussing the importance of industrial transformation as a key driver of the city’s sustainable development.
The high-level forum, themed “Industrial Transformation, New Sustainable Growth Engine for HCMC,” is gathering domestic and international experts, officials, and business executives.
Among the HCMC officials attending the event were Nguyen Van Nen, secretary of the city’s Party Committee, and Phan Van Mai, chairman of the city’s People’s Committee.
In his opening remarks, Nen underscored the pivotal role of HCMC as an economic and cultural hub in Vietnam. He stressed the urgent need to improve the quality of life for its citizens and build a modern city with a strong sense of community.
He said the PM’s attendance at the forum underscored the Government’s commitment to supporting HCMC’s growth, particularly in light of the city’s development goals outlined in Resolution 31 of the Politburo in 2022. The resolution set a target for HCMC to become a modern industrialized city by 2030 and a leading industrial hub in the region by 2045.
“To reach our strategic goals, the city has embraced green and comprehensive transformation as a key task, with industrial transformation as the driving force, digital transformation as the breakthrough, and cooperation as a crucial and inevitable mission,” said Nen.
The forum included several panel discussions, focusing on industrial transformation strategies and the role of businesses and relevant stakeholders in this process.
After the HEF opening session, PM Chinh inaugurated the HCMC Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park in Thu Duc City. The C4IR is a public-private partnership initiative aimed at driving technological advancements, established in collaboration with the World Economic Forum.
The PM is expected to hold a policy dialogue between Government agencies and the business community later in the day.
