HCMC – Vietnam’s prime minister has instructed ministries and local authorities to take decisive action to address worsening traffic congestion in Hanoi and HCMC, reported the local media.
The Ministry of Public Security has been directed to work closely with the Ministry of Transport and local authorities to develop and implement effective traffic management systems to reduce gridlock in the nation’s two largest cities.
The Minister of Public Security will oversee intensified patrols and inspections, focusing on high-risk periods such as the Lunar New Year. Specific attention will be given to violations involving trucks and passenger vehicles, including speeding, driving under the influence, and carrying excess passengers. Strict penalties will be enforced to deter violations.
Traffic police and expressway management units have been tasked with managing incidents like vehicle breakdowns to prevent accidents and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport has been assigned to spearhead initiatives to improve traffic flow on high-density and steep-gradient roads. The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam will coordinate with other agencies to implement measures that enhance road safety and alleviate bottlenecks.
