PM meets with regional leaders at ASEAN summits

HCMC – Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has held bilateral talks with leaders of South Korea, Singapore, Brunei and Thailand on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related high-level meetings in Laos.

During his talks with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol today, October 10, Chinh extended his gratitude to South Korea for providing US$2 million in aid to help Vietnam recover from the impact of typhoon Yagi.

Both leaders pledged to strengthen bilateral ties and agreed to increase high-level engagement, enhance security cooperation, and expand trade and investment. Vietnam and South Korea pledged to reduce trade barriers and collaborate on innovation and science and technology.

In his meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on October 9, PM Chinh discussed solutions for improving market access and resolving trade disputes.

Both countries agreed to increase cooperation in various fields, with the goal of raising bilateral trade to US$25 billion.

Later in the day, the Vietnamese leader held talks with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, with both PMs reaffirming their commitment to elevating bilateral ties to a new height.

Chinh underscored the robust strategic partnership and deep-rooted friendship between Vietnam and Singapore. He pledged to create a more favorable environment for Singaporean investments in Vietnam, prioritizing high-tech sectors like semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

Vietnam is seeking collaboration with Singapore in establishing a data science and innovation hub.

On October 9, Chinh had a separate meeting with Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The two leaders praised the positive trajectory of the Vietnam-Brunei comprehensive partnership and agreed to strengthen bilateral ties, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable ASEAN Community.

Bolkiah expressed his optimism on the planned signing of a memorandum of understanding on Halal industry cooperation between the two countries and committed to fostering collaborative efforts in the Halal goods and food supply chain globally.
