HCMC — The Prime Minister has instructed Khanh Hoa Province to determine the cause of the landslide at Khanh Le Pass that claimed six lives, particularly regarding compliance with official directives on traffic safety and flood prevention measures.
On November 17, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a government telegram on behalf of the Prime Minister, sending urgent instructions to Khanh Hoa and relevant ministries to respond to the landslide incident in Nam Vinh Khanh Commune.
According to the telegram, heavy rainfall triggered a landslide of soil and rocks at Khanh Le Pass on the night of November 16, burying and crushing a passenger vehicle, leaving six people dead and 19 others injured.
The Prime Minister extended his deepest condolences to the victims’ families and expressed sympathy, especially to the families of those who lost their lives.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned that from now until November 18, the central region, including Khanh Hoa and Lam Dong, would continue to experience heavy to very heavy rain, posing a very high risk of landslides, particularly along mountain passes and slopes.
To promptly mitigate the landslide’s aftermath and proactively respond to further heavy rains, the Prime Minister instructed the Chairman of the Khanh Hoa People’s Committee to mobilize all necessary forces and equipment for rescue operations, ensuring the swift and safe extraction of victims trapped in the affected area. Authorities were also urged to coordinate closely with local administrations and relevant agencies to provide support and consolation to the victims’ families.
Medical facilities were ordered to provide free treatment for the injured to help them recover physically and mentally before returning home.
The Prime Minister also directed the province to investigate the incident, focusing on adherence to government warnings and safety directives, and to strictly handle any violations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Additionally, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security are tasked with deploying maximum available resources to support the province’s recovery efforts.
The Ministry of Health is instructed to coordinate with local authorities to provide free medical treatment, while the Ministry of Construction reviews and inspects high-risk areas along transport routes, ensuring traffic safety during heavy rains and minimizing accidents.
