HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered the Ministry of Public Security to step up its investigation into the large-scale production and distribution of counterfeit medicines, dairy products, and health supplements.

The PM has written to ministries, agencies and local authorities urging them to strictly deal with organizations and individuals involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit medicines, dairy products, and health supplements, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Recent investigations by the Ministry of Public Security and other agencies have uncovered multiple cases of counterfeit medicines and milk being produced and sold over extended periods. These incidents have raised serious concerns about public health and consumer safety.

The PM instructed the Ministry of Health to work closely with the Ministry of Public Security in investigating these violations, as well as to review existing regulations and propose necessary legal amendments to close loopholes.

Other ministries — including the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of National Defense — along with local governments, were directed to strengthen inspections across retail channels, distributors, and e-commerce platforms to detect and prevent the spread of counterfeit goods.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism was tasked with collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Security to identify and sanction violations related to false or misleading advertisements in the media and on social media platforms.

Local authorities are also required to conduct inspections of pharmaceutical and health supplements businesses within their jurisdictions, and to take strict action against violators to minimize public harm.
