PM Pham Minh Chinh meets U.S. businesses, urges deeper investment and tech cooperation

HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with a delegation from the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) in Hanoi on July 11, urging greater investment and collaboration in high-tech sectors and committing to address concerns raised by American firms.

The meeting at the Government Office was attended by senior Vietnamese officials, including Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, as well as executives from leading U.S. firms such as Abbott, Amazon, Apple, Boeing, Brunswick, Citibank, Exxon Mobil, Ford, Google, IBM, Intel, Manulife, Meta, UPS, Warburg Pincus, Odgers Berndtson, Zuellig Pharma.

Representatives of USABC and U.S. companies expressed appreciation for the PM’s ongoing engagement and willingness to listen to business concerns. They noted that previous meetings had yielded positive outcomes, helping to resolve various issues.

The U.S. business delegation praised Vietnam’s improving investment and business environment, highlighting the Government’s strong commitments, strategic vision, and efforts to streamline administrative processes. They reaffirmed their intention to continue long-term investment and business cooperation in Vietnam, while also offering several recommendations to further strengthen and enhance bilateral economic ties.

PM Chinh said the Vietnamese Government values the views of U.S. businesses and urged ministries and agencies to promptly review and respond to valid concerns.

He also encouraged continued investment and collaboration in emerging sectors, including science and technology, digital transformation, innovation, and artificial intelligence.

Vietnam and the U.S. have been negotiating a bilateral trade framework aimed at establishing a fair and reciprocal tariff agreement. PM Chinh noted that the two sides have reached broad consensus on a joint statement to serve as the foundation for a future deal that supports stable and sustainable economic growth.

He thanked U.S. businesses for their ongoing support in facilitating dialogue between the two governments and emphasized the need for stronger advocacy from the U.S. private sector to expedite a detailed agreement covering key product categories.

PM Chinh also urged American businesses to back Vietnam’s request for market economy status and support removing the country from the U.S. export control list for advanced technologies.

PM Chinh also encouraged more high-quality U.S. investments, technology transfers, and human resource development support. He called for greater opportunities for Vietnamese firms to integrate into global supply chains and invited U.S. companies to advise the Vietnamese Government on regulatory improvements.
