HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged closer cooperation with Kuwait to strengthen energy security, address current challenges, and support stable production and livelihoods.
The Government leader met Kuwaiti Ambassador to Vietnam Yousef Ashour Al-Sabbagh on April 4 to discuss measures to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries and strengthen cooperation on energy security between the two countries.
He affirmed that Vietnam always values its relationship with Kuwait and recalled his successful phone call with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah last month.
Chinh urged both sides to work closely on the agreed commitments, with particular focus on ensuring the safety of Vietnamese citizens in Kuwait and carrying out the 2026-2030 action plan to diversify cooperation areas.
Amid complex developments in the Middle East, the prime minister expressed concern over their negative impacts on security and the stability of the global economy and energy markets.
He emphasized Vietnam’s consistent stance that disputes must be resolved through peaceful means, via dialogue based on international law, while expressing hope that peace will soon be restored in the region.
Regarding economic cooperation, he proposed that both sides continue to strengthen collaboration by accelerating negotiations on a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Gulf Cooperation Council, and by further enhancing business connectivity between the two countries.
He also called on Kuwait to work closely together in ensuring energy security to address current challenges, thereby contributing to stable production and people’s livelihoods.
The Kuwaiti ambassador said that the Emir and leadership of Kuwait highly appreciated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Kuwait in November 2025, particularly the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
He added that relevant ministries and agencies on both sides are actively working to effectively implement the outcomes of the visit.
He said that Kuwait has been and will continue to work closely with Vietnam to ensure energy security.
The ambassador pledged to make active efforts to serve as a bridge encouraging Kuwaiti energy corporations and investment funds to expand their presence in Vietnam, thereby contributing to a more substantive, effective, and trustworthy strategic partnership between the two countries.
