HCMC – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc yesterday, April 9, signed a VND62 trillion (US$2.65 billion) aid package to help people and businesses cope with the economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.
People forced to stay at home without pay or having their labor contracts suspended for a month or more will receive VND1.8 million per person per month for up to three months.
Enterprises facing financial hardship can borrow money from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to pay each of their employees an additional half-month’s salary.
Household businesses with revenue below VND100 million per year that have suspended operations since April 1 will each receive VND1 million per month for up to three months.
Unemployed people, people under social protection and poor people will each be provided VND1 million, VND500,000 and VND250,000, respectively, per month for three months, from April to June.
The package will be funded by the State budget and localities’ budgets. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has been assigned to work with local authorities to ensure that the aid reaches the right people.
