HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for expediting cross-border railway projects between Vietnam and China to enhance connectivity.
At a meeting in Kunming, Yunnan Province on November 6 with Dai Hegen, chairman of the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), Chinh urged CRCC’s active involvement in railway initiatives linking the two nations.
The Prime Minister’s Office reported that Chinh encouraged CRCC to collaborate closely with Vietnamese authorities on critical rail links, including the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong route, a key infrastructure project aimed at boosting economic ties between the two countries.
Dai of CRCC highlighted the corporation’s expertise and commitment, expressing interest in strategic projects within Vietnam, especially the Kunming-Lao Cai-Hanoi-Haiphong railway corridor. Dai added his company was interested in Vietnam’s high-speed North-South railway project, a major national infrastructure endeavor.
PM Chinh welcomed Chinese investment in Vietnam, affirming that the Vietnamese Government would facilitate foreign business operations. He also proposed that CRCC engage in feasibility studies for additional railway lines, including Hanoi-Lang Son, Mong Cai-Halong-Haiphong, and the North-South high-speed rail line, to enhance regional transport integration.
Chinh additionally requested China’s support in providing preferential loans, technology transfer, and personnel training to aid the advancement of Vietnam’s rail industry.
CRCC, a state-owned enterprise under China’s State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, has developed over 20,000 km of railway and 8,000 km of highway domestically, and constructed more than 9,000 km of railway abroad.
