HCMC — Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has told provincial authorities to speed up work on a coastal road network so that it can be completed at least three months ahead of schedule to improve regional connectivity.
According to the Government’s master plan, the network will span about 2,838 kilometers. Of this, 1,397 kilometers have been completed and opened to traffic, 633 kilometers are under construction, and roughly 808 kilometers are yet to be built or are in the pre-investment stage, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Despite surpassing the national target of 1,000 kilometers of coastal road by 2025, the overall route remains fragmented, limiting its effectiveness in linking economic regions.
The prime minister’s Official Telegram 131 states that cities and provinces including HCMC, Haiphong, Danang, Hue, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Vinh Long, Ca Mau, and An Giang must review construction schedules with contractors and take measures to speed up construction work.
Projects scheduled for completion in 2025 must be finished by December 19 this year.
Local governments are also tasked with prioritizing funding in the 2026-2030 medium-term public investment plan to upgrade sections in line with socio-economic needs, and to expedite preparation for projects, especially those financed by official development assistance (ODA). The goal is to complete the Quang Ninh-An Giang coastal route before 2030.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will work with provinces to resolve issues related to disposal sites and building material supply. The Ministry of Finance will coordinate with local authorities to review and allocate funds for sections not yet in the investment pipeline and support the preparation of ODA-funded projects.
The Ministry of Construction will monitor implementation and report unresolved issues beyond local authority to higher levels for resolution.
