Power saving must be national policy

Energy saving has become an urgent priority as Vietnam, along with the rest of the world, grapples with a deepening energy crisis. In reality, the situation of electricity waste in Vietnam paints a bleak picture—one that is closer to black than grey. Electricity prices in Vietnam remain about 50% lower than in many other countries, leading households and businesses to overlook the importance of energy conservation. As a result, Vietnam’s rate of energy waste is estimated to be six times higher than the global average. However, mounting pressure from domestic regulations, along with international measures such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), will compel change. Around the world, effective energy saving and efficient use are no longer optional—they are becoming central pillars of national policy.
