HCMC – The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam convened its preparatory session on January 19 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi City, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The event will run until January 25 and bring together 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide. The official opening session of the Congress is scheduled for the morning of January 20.
Ahead of the first working session, delegates to the congress laid wreaths and paid tribute at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Monument to Heroic Martyrs.
Delegates discussed and approved key documents, including the political report of the 13th Party Central Committee submitted to the Congress, a review of theoretical and practical issues from 40 years of socialist-oriented reform, a report on 15 years of implementing the Party Charter from 2011 to 2025 with proposals for amendments, and a report reviewing the leadership and direction of the 13th Central Committee.
In preparing the documents, the Communist Party of Vietnam integrated the political report, socio-economic report and Party-building report into a single, unified political report.
Personnel preparations for the 14th Party Central Committee were conducted by the 13th Central Committee and the Personnel Subcommittee in line with Party regulations and the principle of democratic centralism, ensuring transparency, objectivity and balance between continuity and renewal, according to official information.
At the opening of the Congress Press Center on January 14, organizers said 597 journalists and technicians from 113 domestic media outlets had registered to cover the event, up from 498 at the previous Congress.
Another 79 foreign journalists and media assistants from 43 international news agencies, overseas Vietnamese media and political party-affiliated outlets have also registered, compared with 66 at the 13th National Party Congress.
