HCMC – Vietnam’s President To Lam will pay state visits to Laos and Cambodia from July 11 to July 13, according to the Government’s news website (baochinhphu.vn).
The visits come at the invitations of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni. This trip marks President To Lam’s first foreign tour since he took office on May 22, 2024, and aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
Vietnam and Laos have enhanced high-level exchanges and bilateral cooperation, with defense and security cooperation remaining a crucial area in their relationship.
In the first five months of 2024, bilateral trade reached US$780 million, up 11% over the same period in 2023. Vietnam has 255 active projects in Laos, with total capital amounting to US$5.5 billion.
Meanwhile, Vietnam and Cambodia maintain frequent high-level engagements and effective bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
Economic cooperation is a significant aspect of their relationship. Both countries are working towards a bilateral trade target of US$20 billion, reflecting the strong economic ties and mutual benefits in their partnership.
