HCMC – Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam, or PRO Vietnam, has picked Eliseo Barcas, managing director of Tetra Pak Vietnam, as vice chairman.

Barcas is responsible for overseeing the technical operations committee, replacing Laurent Levan.

With over two decades of experience in the consumer goods sector, Barcas brings a wealth of expertise in sustainability initiatives to his new role.

His appointment comes following the implementation of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) principle in Vietnam in January. This regulation mandates companies to recycle a designated percentage of the packaging materials they introduce to the market.

In his new position, Barcas will lead the committee in implementing practical collection and recycling strategies to meet the requirements of the EPR mandate, PRO Vietnam said in a statement.

“Vietnam is at a pivotal moment in the global shift towards sustainable economies,” said Barcas. “I’m honored to join PRO Vietnam’s efforts in building a greener, more resilient Vietnam.”

PRO Vietnam is a non-profit organization formed by 23 major companies in Vietnam, dedicated to promoting a sustainable future for packaging recycling.
