HCMC – Ho Minh Nen, director of the Quang Ngai Center for Disease Control (CDC), has been reprimanded for his shortcomings in procuring Covid test kits.

The provincial Party Committee’s Inspection Commission issued the reprimand on October 6, the local media reported.

Besides, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the provincial Health Department was also reprimanded for its slack leadership in the purchase of medical equipment, leading to Nen’s irregularities.

In addition, the former secretaries of the department’s Party Committee in the 2015-2020 and 2020-2025 tenures and former directors of the department in the 2014-2018 and 2019-2022 tenures got disciplinary warnings.

During the Covid outbreaks, the Quang Ngai CDC spent some VND60 billion buying medical equipment, biological products and Covid test kits. The center procured three packages of test kits from Viet A Technology Corporation at a total cost of over VND5 trillion in July and August last year. The prices of test kits ranged from VND367,000 to VND509,000 per kit, much higher than its value.

Over the past seven months, since the Viet A case was put under investigation, provincial and municipal investigators and police have filed charges against over 90 related people.
