HCMC – A magnitude-4.5 earthquake struck central Vietnam’s Quang Ngai Province early Thursday, with another following shortly after, the national earthquake monitoring center said.
The first quake hit at 1:26 a.m. (local time) in Mang But Commune at a depth of 8.1 kilometers. It was assigned a level 1 disaster risk.
A second of magnitude 2.8 occurred about an hour later at nearly the same location, with a depth of 8.2 kilometers.
Residents in nearby Kon Tum Ward, about 100 kilometers from the epicenter, and Hoai Nhon in Gia Lai Province, 200 kilometers away, reported feeling the tremors, with some saying their porch roofs rattled.
Local authorities in Mang But Commune said they are reviewing and assessing property damage caused by the earthquake.
