HCMC – Quang Ninh Province handled its first import shipment of 2026 on January 1, with goods worth US$4.5 million cleared through the Bac Luan 2 border gate at the Mong Cai International Border Gate.
Customs officials at Mong Cai completed clearance procedures for the shipment, which consisted of machinery and equipment. The consignment generated nearly VND9.9 billion in tax revenue, according to local authorities.
Leaders of Mong Cai 1 Ward, including Party Secretary Ho Quang Huy and People’s Committee Chairman Do Van Tuan, attended a ceremony to welcome and congratulate import-export enterprises at the start of the new year.
The smooth clearance of the first shipment is seen as a positive signal for cross-border trade in 2026, pointing to stable and active import-export operations from the outset of the year.
Border authorities also reported brisk cross-border travel by tourists through Bac Luan 2 from January 1. Functional forces were deployed to ensure sufficient staffing and streamlined procedures, aiming to keep both goods clearance and passenger movement safe and efficient.
More than 1,900 enterprises currently conduct import-export procedures via the Mong Cai International Border Gate. Total trade through the gate reached over US$5.2 billion in the first 11 months of 2025, official data showed.
