HCMC — A total of 21 wind power projects with a combined capacity of over 994 megawatts (MW) are now in commercial operation in the central province of Quang Tri as of July.
These projects form part of a broader energy roadmap, which includes 14,415 MW of planned power capacity in the province under Vietnam’s adjusted National Power Development Plan VIII through 2030. An additional 3,872.8 MW is scheduled for development during the 2031–2035 period, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
Currently, the total installed and commercially operating power capacity in the province stands at 1,459.8 MW. This includes not only wind energy but also 11 hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 181.5 MW, four ground-mounted solar power plants totaling 159.2 MW, and 1,204 rooftop solar systems providing 126.7 MW.
Another 11 power projects with a combined capacity of 424 MW have received investment approval and are under development. Three of them, which are Huong Linh 4, Hai Anh, and Tan Hop projects, will add 108 MW and are expected to begin operation by the end of the third quarter. The remaining projects are scheduled for commissioning between 2026 and 2027.
Authorities say these renewable energy initiatives play a significant role in driving industrial growth in the province. Local authorities are working to address regulatory, land clearance, and transmission infrastructure challenges to ensure timely project implementation.
