HCMC – The volume of goods traded through border gates in Quang Tri Province plunged 11.7% year-on-year to just over one million tons in the first two months of 2026, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The customs processed 5,833 import-export declarations during the period, including 2,273 export and 3,560 import declarations, up 7% compared with the same period in 2025.

Despite the increase in declarations, the total value of goods put through the province’s border gates reached US$393 million, down 7% year-on-year. Exports totaled US$97.8 million while imports reached US$295.2 million.

Cross-border travel also declined. A total of 121,478 vehicles and 230,235 travelers passed through the province’s border gates in the first two months of the year, down 5.8% from a year earlier.

The customs handled 116 administrative violations during the period and imposed fines totaling more than VND607 million. They also detected three cases involving four individuals linked to illegal cross-border transportation of goods, trading goods without valid documentation in customs-controlled areas, and illegal drug transport.

The prime minister assigned Quang Tri a state budget revenue target of VND2.55 trillion from customs activities in 2025. By December 31, revenue had reached VND2.73 trillion, exceeding the target by around 11% and up 2% from 2024.

Customs authorities expect import-export activities through Quang Tri’s border gates to remain stable in 2026, with no major changes in the commodity structure. State budget revenue is projected at around VND2.85 trillion.

Key revenue contributors are expected to include coal, estimated at VND1.13 trillion; energy drinks, around VND800 billion; imported machinery and equipment, VND210 billion; sugar, VND125 billion; and fertilizers, VND110 billion.

Regularly traded goods such as timber, gypsum, cassava starch, wood chips and minerals are forecast to contribute about VND469 billion.
