Rethink cybersecurity

Entrusted with the safekeeping of personal data, organizations must act in ways that do not betray the public’s trust. The country has recently been shaken by a major data breach at the National Credit Information Center (CIC). Preliminary findings from the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) pointed to signs of cyberattacks and intrusions targeting personal data. The Department of Information Technology, under the Ministry of Justice, estimated that approximately 160 million credit records of clients in Vietnam are at risk of being leaked. This incident once again sounds the alarm on the protection of personal information and cybersecurity across many organizations in Vietnam. It shows that not only private institutions but also public organizations are far from immune to threats from high-tech crime. Facing such risks, many small- and medium-sized organizations, including numerous domestic businesses, still have a vague understanding of personal data protection.
