HCMC – Vietnam’s average rice export price dropped 18.6% in the first nine months of the year, due mainly to the Philippines suspending rice imports from September 1, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

The country exported seven million tons of rice worth US$3.55 billion in the period, up 0.1% in volume but down 18.5% in value year-on-year. The average export price stood at US$509 per ton.

The Philippines remained Vietnam’s largest market, accounting for 44% of exports despite a 16.4% decline in value, followed by Ghana (11.4%) and Ivory Coast (10.7%).

Global rice demand remains weak, and traders expect slow transactions through year-end, as the Philippines has extended its import ban until December to stabilize local paddy prices.

In HCMC, domestic rice prices have fallen by around VND1,000 per kilogram due to rising supply. ST25 rice from Daklak now sells for around VND19,500 per kilogram. In the Mekong Delta, export-quality paddy prices declined slightly, with OM 18 at VND8,500–8,700 and IR 504 at VND7,900–8,050 per kilogram.
