HCMC – Vietnam had exported 6.6 million tons of rice in the year to September 15, up 1.5% from a year earlier, but revenue fell 17% to US$3.37 billion as global prices eased, customs data showed.

The Vietnam Food Association said 5% broken fragrant rice was offered at US$440-465 per ton this week, while Jasmine rice rose by US$3 to US$499-503 per ton.

In the domestic market, paddy prices declined in the Mekong Delta. In Can Tho City, Jasmine fell to VND8,200 per kilogram, OM18 dropped to VND6,500, IR 5451 traded at VND6,200, and ST25 at VND9,500. In An Giang, traders bought IR 50404 at VND5,000-5,100 per kilogram, with other varieties ranging from VND5,600 to VND6,200, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Retail rice prices ranged from VND13,000-14,000 per kilogram for common rice, VND16,000-18,000 for Jasmine, and VND20,000-22,000 for Thai fragrant long-grain.

The Department of Plant Production and Protection said 11 pilot models of high-quality, low-emission rice production are being implemented in five Mekong Delta provinces and cities, covering 543.5 hectares with 355 households.

The models helped farmers cut costs by VND1.7-4.9 million per hectare and increased profits by 13-103% compared with traditional methods. Production costs of fresh paddy dropped to VND2,820-4,760 per kilogram.

For the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop, the program will expand to six provinces with 5,194 hectares and apply cultivation practices to more than 399,000 hectares nationwide.
