HCMC – Vietnam had exported more than 7.02 million tons of rice worth US$3.59 billion in the year to October 15, down 4.4% in volume and 21.9% in value year-on-year, official data showed.
Domestic rice prices have declined as export firms slowed purchases, while the Asian market also weakened amid reduced trading activity, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Data from the Vietnam Food Association showed fragrant rice prices averaged VND5,379 per kilogram, down VND21 from the previous week. In contrast, ordinary rice rose by VND46 to an average of VND5,161 per kilogram.
The Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho said Jasmine rice was priced at VND8,400 per kilogram, OM 18 at VND6,800, IR 5451 at VND6,200, and ST25 at VND9,400, with little week-on-week change.
In the Mekong Delta, farmers completed the 2025 summer-autumn crop on 1.24 million hectares, producing about 7.51 million tons of rice with an average yield of 6.06 tons per hectare, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The southern region as a whole produced around 10.78 million tons. Farmers have also planted 763,000 hectares for the autumn-winter crop, exceeding the plan by 2.8%, and 144,000 hectares for the 2025 seasonal crop, reaching nearly 82% of the target.
For the 2025–2026 winter-spring crop, about 54,000 hectares out of the planned 1.27 million hectares have been sown.
