HCMC – Vietnam’s rice export prices have edged down to US$350–355 per ton over the past week, as higher shipping costs have delivered a blow to trading activity.

Domestic paddy and rice prices remained largely stable, according to market data from An Giang Province and other Mekong Delta areas, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

In An Giang, high-quality paddy varieties OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 held at VND5,600–5,700 per kilogram. OM 5451 traded at VND5,400–5,500 per kilogram. Lower-grade IR 50404 and OM 34 stood at VND5,200–5,300 per kilogram and VND5,100–5,200 per kilogram.

For raw rice, Dai Thom 8 stayed at VND9,200–9,400 per kilogram, leading the premium segment. OM 18 ranged from VND8,900–9,100 per kilogram, while IR 504 was quoted at VND8,000–8,100 per kilogram. Finished IR 504 rice held steady at VND9,500–9,700 per kilogram.

By-products were traded between VND7,500 and VND11,500 per kilogram. Broken rice (IR 504) stood at VND7,500–7,650 per kilogram, and bran at VND10,500–11,500 per kilogram.

Retail rice prices were unchanged. Nang Nhen rice was priced at VND28,000 per kilogram. Japanese rice and Huong Lai rice were around VND22,000 per kilogram. Mid-range rice sold at VND16,000–17,000 per kilogram, while standard rice ranged from VND12,000–13,000 per kilogram. Jasmine rice held at VND13,000–14,000 per kilogram.

Despite ample domestic supply, export activity has slowed as higher maritime freight costs have weighed on transactions. The increase is linked to disruptions from tensions in the Middle East, prompting more cautious buying and selling.
