HCMC – A collision between a container truck and a sleeper bus on National Highway 2 in northern Vietnam early Tuesday morning left five people dead and many others injured, the local media reported.
The accident occurred at around 1:40 a.m. near Tu Quan Commune, Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang Province. The container truck was traveling from Tuyen Quang to Ha Giang Province when it collided with the sleeper bus with around 45 passengers on board in the opposite direction.
A preliminary investigation by the Traffic Police Department showed that the driver of the container truck may have lost control of the vehicle while navigating a curve, leading to the fatal crash into the sleeper bus.
The impact was severe, causing extensive damage to the front and left side of the bus, and resulting in the container truck overturning. Debris from the collision was scattered within a 30-meter radius.
Five individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while dozens were rushed to Phuong Bac General Hospital for emergency treatment. The victims, aged between 24 and 37, came from various provinces across Vietnam.
Both drivers tested negative for alcohol and their vehicles were roadworthy at the time of the accident.
At the time of the collision, the bus was traveling at 48 kilometers per hour, while the speed of the container truck remained undisclosed.
National Highway 2 is 300 kilometers long, passing through Hanoi and four provinces: Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang.
