HCMC – Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, during his official visit to Vietnam on September 12, met with Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan to discuss ways to strengthen healthcare cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, Murashko said the two ministries are advancing collaboration in several fields, including the exchange of medical equipment and specialists in maternal and child care, cancer treatment technologies, biotechnology, ophthalmology, dentistry, and traditional medicine. Discussions also covered student and lecturer exchanges, short-term training, clinical practice, joint research, pharmaceutical development, early disease screening, and digital healthcare.

The Russian side highlighted its intention to promote medical tourism, allowing Russian citizens to travel to Vietnam for treatment and healthcare services. Moscow also expressed readiness to provide a list of leading hospitals, vaccine research centers, technology institutions, and pharmaceutical companies to foster cooperation.

As part of his visit, Murashko toured the Vietnam–Russia International Ophthalmology Hospital in Hanoi, the only facility in Vietnam equipped with advanced microsurgical ophthalmology technology from Russia’s Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Complex. He commended Vietnamese doctors’ expertise, noting that ophthalmology has been a core area of bilateral cooperation since 1991.

Also on September 12, Vietnam Vaccine and Biological Products Company (VNVC) and Russia’s Medsintez Pharmaceutical Company signed an agreement on the full transfer of technology for producing new-generation biological drugs for the treatment of various acute and chronic diseases. The signing ceremony was held in Hanoi, and witnessed by Minister Murashko and Minister Dao Hong Lan.

According to the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, Murashko is also expected to hold further talks with Minister Lan on cooperation in medical product supply, treatment of Vietnamese patients in Russia, workforce training, and joint scientific research. The delegation will also visit Hanoi Medical University and several local hospitals.

In May, the two health ministries signed a memorandum of understanding on biomedical cooperation, covering information exchange, training, expert exchanges, and joint workshops. The two sides are also working on establishing a corneal tissue bank in Vietnam, an initiative first mentioned during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit in June 2024.
