Russian PM Mishustin visits Vietnam

HCMC – Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presided over a welcoming ceremony in Hanoi today, January 14, in honor of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

His January 14-15 visit, the first by a foreign leader in 2025, commemorates 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. It is viewed as a pivotal step in strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia, encompassing political, economic, and cultural ties.

Vietnam and Russia enjoy a robust political relationship, underscored by regular high-level exchanges and collaboration in international forums. Their economic partnership continues to grow, with bilateral trade reaching US$3.63 billion in 2023 and an estimated US$4.57 billion in 2024.

Russia currently has 199 investment projects in Vietnam worth approximately US$990 million, while Vietnam has 16 projects in Russia valued at US$1.6 billion.

Beyond trade, cooperation in education, science, and culture has deepened. About 5,000 Vietnamese students are studying in Russia, and annual cultural exchange programs further cement ties.

This visit is expected to enhance collaboration, particularly in energy and industry, while advancing ongoing joint projects and exploring new opportunities. Both leaders aim to solidify the foundation for a stronger strategic relationship as they look forward to future cooperation.
