HCMC – On August 20, representatives of the Saigon Times Group, the organizer of the “Saigon Times – Great Circle” program, as well as donors Nam A Bank and Chatwork paid a visit to Binh Phuoc Province— home to the longest borderline in the southern region at 260 kilometers—and handed over medical supplies and necessities such as masks and disinfectants to the border guard forces there.
Colonel Hoang Van Thanh, unit’s Deputy Political Commissar, stated that some 62 permanent checkpoints and 11 mobile teams have been set up, with more than 300 soldiers in charge of pandemic prevention managing them. According to Thanh, the forces always work in poor conditions, lacking necessities from fresh water to masks and disinfectants.
The forces are thus grateful for the valuable support from various organizations such as the Saigon Times Group. The goods donated as part of the “Saigon Times – Great Circle” program will be given to the soldiers and the locals, Thanh said.
Through practical activities such as donating supplies, medical equipment and essential goods, Nam A Bank wishes to contribute to encouraging the forces tasked with preventing and fighting against Covid-19 at the border, said a Nam A Bank representative.
“Since Covid-19 broke out in Vietnam, Nam A Bank has carried out many activities to help limit the spread of the virus among the community,” the representative stated, adding, “Such a donation is very practical. It not only provides items to people in need but also motivates the frontline forces in the war against the pandemic.”
The next trips will be conducted in the next few days to the borderlines across the southern provinces.
These activities are part of the “Saigon Times – Great Circle” program’s third phase titled “Together we win Covid-19”, aimed at continuing to support the society win the war against Covid-19.
This follows the success of the program’s first phase that sought to help poverty-stricken people overcome the hardships caused by the pandemic earlier this year and the second phase titled “Together with Vietnam’s Tourism”.
The third phase kicked off from mid-August and will focus on sharing the difficulties of those who are at the frontlines in the fight against the novel coronavirus along with the support of the business community and other donors.
For this purpose, the Saigon Times Group is calling on its readers—businesses and individuals alike—to participate in the program.
