Saigon Times Group forum seeks to propel net zero commitment

HCMC – The Sustainable Development 2024 event, themed “Accelerating the economy to net zero”, took place at the five-star New World Saigon Hotel in downtown HCMC this morning, September 19.

It is part of Saigon Times Group’s annual Green Economy Forum series aimed at offering a thorough, multifaceted and practical view of the green transition that Vietnam’s economy is working toward to meet the net zero commitment by 2050.

The event brought together around 200 participants, including leaders from government agencies, research institutes, domestic and international businesses, as well as keynote speakers and panelists who are leading experts and representatives from companies with extensive practical experience in green production and sustainable development.

The participation of numerous experts, managers, and business leaders in the event highlights the growing interest in the green economy from a broad range of stakeholders.

During the forum, speakers and attendees reviewed the latest policies and outcomes of Vietnam’s green transition and examined strategies to address upcoming challenges in green transition and sustainable development, aiming to accelerate Vietnam’s progress toward net zero emissions by 2050.

In the forum’s first presentation, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, vice director of the Vietnam Institute for Economic and Policy Research, addressed the topic “Accelerating Towards Green Growth.” He provided an overview of the Government’s and businesses’ recent actions and efforts to advance green economic development, as well as discussed emerging trends and challenges in the pursuit of green growth

Bui Dang Duyen Mai, director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability at CocaCola Vietnam and Cambodia, talks about the transition to green growth. The content is illustrated with specific examples, showcasing practical actions taken by the business to transition to low-emission production models and green growth

During the event, the organizers also introduced the fundraising program “Saigon Times – Great Circle – Helping Students Get Back to School Post-Storm” to guests and participants, which calls for donations to assist students and fund repairs of schools affected by typhoon Yagi

To support students affected by typhoon Yagi and flooding in northern Vietnam, the organizers set up donation boxes and hold an art sale to raise funds. This initiative is part of the “Saigon Times – Great Circle – Helping Students Get Back to School Post Storm” program, launched by the Saigon Times Group in collaboration with the 2030 Businessmen Club, the Saigon Times Market & Real Estate Club (SMRC), and the Branding Club under the Saigon Times Club.
