HCMC – Saigon Times Group is hosting a series of events on “New U.S. Tariff Policies and Vietnam’s Response” from now until March 27 this year in HCMC.

According to the latest directive from U.S. President Donald Trump on February 13, the U.S. will conduct a comprehensive review of tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers imposed by trading partners on American goods. Within the next 180 days, they will propose reciprocal tariffs to adjust the trade balance.

This move not only broadens the U.S. trade war but also heightens uncertainty for businesses globally. If enacted, the new policy could present substantial challenges, as applying tariffs to thousands of imported products from over 150 countries is a complex undertaking with direct consequences for both U.S. and international businesses. The review of these new tariff measures is expected to conclude by April 1, 2025.

The shifts in U.S. tariff policy present major challenges for Vietnamese businesses, especially in key export sectors like seafood, textiles, furniture, electronics, and agriculture. A question arises as to how businesses can adapt to these changes while capitalizing on free trade agreements (FTAs) to mitigate adverse effects.

Recognizing this situation, Saigon Times Group is organizing a series of events on “New U.S. Tariff Policies and Vietnam’s Response,” taking place in HCMC from now until March 27.

The event series are designed to update businesses on key trade developments and new U.S. policies impacting Vietnam’s exports, provide expert consultation and practical legal strategies to help exporters adapt, and foster a networking platform for government agencies, business associations, enterprises, and stakeholders to collaborate on concrete solutions for support in the evolving trade landscape.

The event series includes two online talk shows and a seminar:

  • Talk show 1: Vietnamese enterprises and concerns over new U.S. tariff policies (broadcast on Kinh te Sai Gon Online at thesaigontimes.vn).
  • Talk show 2: Key considerations for Vietnamese businesses amid new U.S. tariff policy (broadcast on Kinh te Sai Gon Online at thesaigontimes.vn and The Saigon Times at english.thesaigontimes.vn).
  • In-depth seminar: New U.S. Tariff Policies and Vietnam’s Response (scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 27, 2025, in HCMC).

The seminar will feature representatives from the Department of Foreign Market Development at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the U.S. Consulate General, the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham Vietnam), industry associations, and import-export businesses.
