HCMC – Soc Trang authorities, in collaboration with Truong Son Construction Corporation, held a groundbreaking ceremony to begin river sand extraction at MS05 sand mine in the Hau River, facilitating the construction of the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang Expressway.

The expressway is scheduled for completion and traffic opening in 2027, marking the first horizontal expressway in the Mekong Delta region.

MS05 sand mine, spanning about 100 hectares, is situated in An Thanh 1 Commune and An Thanh Dong Commune in Cu Lao Dung District. Sand reserves approved for extraction totals over 1.14 million cubic meters, to be mined over a two-year period.

MS05 is one of five sand mines on the Hau River in Soc Trang province, covering a combined area of over 450 hectares with more than 11 million cubic meters of sand. The province has completed the necessary documentation and procedures to transfer these mines to contractors for exploitation under a special mechanism.

The Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway project, in its first phase, extends over 188 kilometers and traverses four localities: An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang. The project’s total investment exceeds VND44,690 billion.
