HCMC – Deputy Transport Minister Nguyen Duy Lam has called on contractors to intensify sea sand mining operations to expedite the construction of the Can Tho-Ca Mau Expressway in the Mekong Delta, which is currently 11% behind schedule.
During an inspection of the project on October 15, Lam attributed the delays to insufficient manpower and equipment. He instructed contractors to fully utilize sand mining vessels and transportation resources to deliver the required materials to the construction site.
The VND27,500-billion expressway project has completed 46% of its construction plan, with 45 out of 117 bridge decks finished. All bridges along the main route are expected to be completed by December 31.
Lam emphasized the need to increase daily sand output from the current 12,000-13,000 cubic meters to 30,000 cubic meters as the project still requires an additional 5.67 million cubic meters.
He stressed the importance of adhering to environmental regulations during the sand mining process, especially in trial operation areas.
