Recently, Sanofi Vietnam was honored to receive the “Excellence in Environmental Impact”, one category of “ESG Impact Awards” given by AmCham Vietnam.
The award is a recognition for Sanofi’s contribution to innovations for sustainable development. The “Planet care” strategy focuses on three main goals: (1) Reach carbon neutrality in 2030; (2) Limit our environmental footprint and adopt circular solutions; (3) Improve environmental profile of our products.
This strategy is implemented via different activities in Vietnam with many significant results such as reducing 16 tons of plastic waste per year, 500 tons of wastepaper yearly and 58 tons of PVC, aluminum foils as well as blister waste each year.
Sanofi Vietnam factory is simultaneously working towards the goal of becoming carbon neutral in 2025. To give impetus to the water-recycling work, Sanofi applies the wastewater treatment in every working process and will harvest rainwater in large containers to make use it in other activities. Moreover, Sanofi has applied a technical solution for power saving at the workplace. In addition, Sanofi has converted 50% of direct marketing activities to digital/online interactions to diminish environmental impacts; actively reduced sizes, weights, and consumptions of packaging materials; collaborated with pharmacy chains to implement pilot programs of collecting used insulin pens and properly destroying them to minimize untreated medical waste…
“Rice is a new green” – a sustainable development project initiated by Sanofi Vietnam – is an idea pioneering the conversion of conventional diesel fuel-fired boilers to rice husk-fired boilers, with the aim to reduce the CO2 emission by 2.3 kTons per year. This model is expected to motivate other industries in Vietnam to find alternative solutions for diesel, which contributes to a significant reduction of CO2 nationwide.
