As part of its 2025 training program, a delegation from the National Power System and Market Operation (NSMO) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade selected the 210MWp Sao Mai Solar power plant for a study visit. The choice underscored the plant’s role not only in scale and efficiency, but also as a reference point for operations and knowledge-sharing within Vietnam’s renewable energy sector.
Located at the foot of Cam Mountain, often called the “roof of the Mekong Delta,” the Sao Mai Solar plant is one of the largest renewable energy projects in southern Vietnam. With an investment of more than VND6 trillion, the project has demonstrated the ambition to build a sustainable future while reshaping the socio-economic landscape of the That Son semi-mountainous area in An Giang Province.
The 210MWp facility is equipped with more than 500,000 solar panels across 250 hectares. It supplies over 300 million kWh of clean electricity annually to the national grid, supporting energy security and helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside this project, Sao Mai Solar also invests in the Europlast Long An solar power plant, with a capacity of 50MWp. Together, these clean energy facilities are an integral part of Vietnam’s national electricity system.
What distinguishes Sao Mai Solar is its innovative approach. Beyond electricity production, the site has been developed into An Hao Solar Farm, a green technology tourism destination.
Visitors can admire vast solar fields stretching across the mountain foothills, enjoying a landscape where modern technology harmonizes with natural heritage
The impact of Sao Mai Solar extends beyond clean electricity output. The project has created a new development ecosystem in An Giang, a province long associated with rice, aquaculture, and spiritual tourism. By combining renewable energy with tourism, the project has enhanced land use, generated jobs, and opened new livelihood opportunities for local communities.
Behind this solar initiative is Sao Mai Group, a Vietnamese conglomerate with nearly 30 years of history. Its business spans real estate, aquaculture, food processing, labor export, construction, tourism, construction, and renewable energy.
The group’s strategy emphasizes sustainable development. Beyond solar, it is expanding into wind power projects in Laos, highlighting the company’s ability to deliver large-scale projects comparable to international standards.

As the world works to tackle climate change, reduce carbon emissions, and pursue green development goals, the presence of Sao Mai Solar carries special significance. It is not only a successful project but also a symbol of new thinking, innovative approaches, and the aspirations of Vietnamese enterprises to reach further.

Sao Mai Solar stands as a symbol of Vietnam’s commitment to green growth. From a bold idea, it has grown into a project that embodies the vision of a sustainable and prosperous future for the country and the region.
