HCMC – Hanoi’s electricity demand reached an unprecedented peak of 5,608 MW at 1:42 p.m. on July 30, according to the Hanoi Power Corporation, as the city endures an intense heatwave with temperatures consistently hovering between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius.
From July 27 to 29 alone, electricity output surged nearly 40%, jumping from 79.96 million kWh to 108.7 million kWh, marking the sharpest increase ever recorded.
Residential households accounted for the largest share of consumption, highlighting how soaring temperatures are driving a spike in the use of cooling appliances across the city.
In response, the Hanoi Power Corporation has urged households, offices, and manufacturing facilities to join efforts in conserving electricity.
Consumers are advised to switch off unnecessary electrical devices and avoid using high-power appliances during peak hours, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. and from 10:00 p.m. to midnight.
To reduce power usage, customers are encouraged to set air conditioners at 26 degrees Celsius or higher and use them in combination with electric fans.
It also recommends using energy-efficient appliances and performing regular maintenance on air conditioners and refrigerators as effective measures to lower electricity consumption.
