Singapore’s 59th National Day celebrated in town

HCMC – The Singaporean Consulate General in HCMC marked the 59th National Day of Singapore today, August 21, with a celebratory event held in District 1.

The event underscored robust ties between Singapore and Vietnam, highlighting the thriving business partnerships, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections that continue to flourish between the two nations.

In his address, Singaporean Consul General in HCMC Pang Te Cheng emphasized the strong foundation of the bilateral relationship, which was bolstered by the strategic partnership established in 2013.

“Our collaboration with southern Vietnam has been particularly fruitful, with significant investments in various sectors, from urban development to digital and health services. The Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) stand as a testament to our successful partnership, with 14 parks already established. These projects have attracted over US$18.4 billion in investments and created around 300,000 jobs,” he remarked.

Vice Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Duong Ngoc Hai also spoke at the event, commending Singapore for its significant role in fostering close ties across various aspects, from security to economy, culture, and society. He highlighted Singapore’s contribution to building a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN region.

He also acknowledged the increasing number of Vietnamese businesses investing in Singapore in fields such as science, technology, and aviation, citing prominent companies like Vingroup, Vinamilk, and Vietjet Air.

Hai affirmed HCMC’s commitment to further strengthening the relationship with Singapore, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, urban planning, and digital transformation.

He noted that Singapore has been the largest source of investment for HCMC, with a total registered investment of US$14 billion, making it the city’s second-largest trading partner.
