HCMC – Le Thuy Hang, former general director of the State-run Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), has been arrested on alleged charges of abusing gold price stabilization policy and falsifying transaction documents to expropriate assets, according to the local media.

Major General Hoang Anh Tuyen, spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, said on December 31 that six people in SJC have been temporarily detained in the case involving SJC and related units.

Le Thuy Hang, 54; Mai Quoc Uy Vien, SJC gold workshop director; Tran Tan Phat, SJC gold workshop deputy director, and Nguyen Thi Hue, director of the Haiphong branch of SJC, have all been charged with abusing their positions and powers while performing official duties.

Hoang Le Hue, director of the Central Region Branch of SJC, and Nguyen Thi Loc, accountant at the Central Region Branch of SJC, have been charged with embezzlement.

The Investigation Police Agency of the Ministry of Public Security filed charges against the case on September 16.

The ministry spokesperson said that the police determined the accused had exploited gold price stabilization transactions, fabricated documents and accounting records to embezzle money and make illicit gains.

The investigation agency is focusing on gathering documents and evidence against the accused, while also continuing to expand the investigation, review, verify, and fully recover the embezzled and lost assets, he said.
