Trial for largest-ever oil smuggling ring begins today

HCMC – The People’s Court in the south-central province of Binh Thuan opened a trial today, December 12, for a total of 12 defendants, including some customs officers, who were involved in the country’s largest-ever fuel smuggling ring worth over VND2 trillion (US$86 million), reported the local media.

The volume of foreign remittances sent to Vietnam is strongly increasing though the interest rate on the US dollar in Vietnam is currently zero percent. In HCMC, foreign remittances recorded at credit organizations amounted to US$3.8 billion during the year to October and are forecast to surge toward the end of the year, Thanh Nien newspaper reported, citing Nguyen Hoang Minh, deputy director of the State Bank of Vietnam’s HCMC branch.

Members of the HCMC People's Council on December 7 approved a resolution to realize the 2019 budget revenue target of some VND399.125, averaging out at over VND1.09 trillion a day.
